Lake Toxaway is an outdoor Mecca for adventure: hiking, biking, exploring, fishing, nature watching, and more. Not only does Lake Toxaway boast an ideal location on Lake Toxaway, it is also poised in the midst of natural wonderland of state parks and national forests. Among the more celebrated are Panthertown Valley – which backs up to the Lake Toxaway property – and Gorges State Park, both teeming with lush forests, trickling streams, gushing waterfalls, expansive ridgelines, and a variety of wildlife. There is truly adventure in every direction…out the door, down the path, over the hill, along the stream. The best way to explore this area is to pick a direction and go. Many of our residents and their families are avid outdoor enthusiasts, who partake in a variety of recreational pursuits – some intensive, some relaxing, some in-between. The following are a few resources to help you get outdoors and explore this magical mountain setting in Western North Carolina.
Panthertown Valley
Panthertown Valley, sometimes referred to as the Yosemite of the East, lies on the eastern continental divide, and boasts more than 25 miles of designated trails across 6,300 breathtaking, forested acres. This is a must for hikers, bikers, campers, and nature lovers in general.
Gorges State Park
This is some of the most gorgeous mountain terrain in Western North Carolina, offering spectacular waterfalls, river gorges, sheer rock walls, and beautiful panoramic views. Rolling and winding across 7,500 scenic acres, Gorges is the only state park west of Asheville, and offers a dynamic 7,100-square foot Visitor Center.
